William Kemp is a predoctoral research fellow at the Università di Bologna and will begin working on the POPCLIMA project in May 2023. William graduated with an MSc in Demography and Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in December 2022. His dissertation, a spatial analysis, focused on regional mortality patterns in Malawi during the COVID-19 pandemic, analysing mobile phone survey data and comparing with historical Demographic and Health Survey data to measure district-level excess deaths in the country. Alongside his studies at LSHTM, William volunteered on the University of Oxford’s Covid-19 Government Response Tracker as a data contributor, and more recently as a data reviewer.
William’s prior background was in Natural Sciences, where he studied at the University of Leeds, specialising in Environmental Science and Biology. He undertook a literature review of the impact of atmospheric warming on the productivity of livestock in the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Since his graduation from LSHTM, William has been working as a Data and Research Analyst at the United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics.
