DSEAS Seminar: Climate change and population: challenges and opportunities for sustainable development

Published At: 01 May 2023

The DSEAS seminar " Climate change and population: challenges and opportunities for sustainable development " will be held on Monday 22 May 2023 at 09:15 in the Aula Magna "V. Li Donni", the University of Palermo.

Presenter: Raya Muttarak, University of Bologna, Department of Statistical Sciences, Italy

Topic: Climate change and population dynamics: present and future trends

Abstract: The human population is at the center of research on global environmental changes. On the one hand, population dynamics influence the environment and the global climate system through carbon emissions based on consumption. On the other hand, the health and well-being of the population are already affected by climate change. A deep understanding of the interaction between population dynamics and climate change is therefore essential to understand how the size, composition, and distribution of the population influence environmental changes at a global level, and how these changes in turn differentially affect population subgroups based on demographic characteristics and spatial distribution.

The meeting will be an opportunity to reflect on the impact of climate change on demographic dynamics (fecundity, migration, mortality, migration), and on its structure by age and territorial distribution.

To participate it is necessary to register HERE by 18 May 2023.
