Raya Muttarak will give the lecture on the topic "Impact of Climate Change on Population Dynamics and Migration" at the Lombardy Institute Academy of Sciences and Letters on Thursday, November 6, 2025, 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Climate change has been a topic of scientific debate and public discussion for at least thirty years. There is no longer any reasonable doubt that global warming is occurring and that the primary causes are greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, the primary concern now is: what should we expect for the future and what should we do? What mitigation and adaptation policies should be adopted in an overpopulated world, with growing energy and economic demands, and amid growing instability (wars, terrorism, and disruptions in geopolitical balances)?
The series of lectures by the Lombardy Institute aims to take stock of the most up-to-date knowledge (on a global and continental/national scale): the progress of climate models in forecasting future scenarios , the assessments of the environmental consequences of the various scenarios, the mix of realistically feasible energy production solutions , adaptation policies in the various sectors (food, health, etc.), the economic consequences of the policies, the unavoidable and necessary social transformations and the related problems that accompany them (inequalities, migration, etc.), the perception of the problem of climate change in public opinion .
