About

David Sánchez-Paéz comes from Ecuador. Since May 2023, he is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Università di Bologna taking part in the POPCLIMA project. Between September 2019 and April 2023, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLouvain (Belgium). There, he studied the causes that have led to halts and reversals in fertility decline and examined the extent to which the desire for large families contributed to high fertility rates in SSA. Prior to that, he was a Consultant of Social Policy at UNICEF-Ecuador, Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Education of Ecuador and Director of Education Policy and Planning at the Municipality of Quito. There, among others, he worked on monitoring and evaluating the progress of the Ecuadorian Government on achieving the Millennium Development Goals. He received his master’s degree in Economics from Georgetown University (United States) in 2010 and his Ph.D. in Economics from the Universidad de Salamanca (Spain) in 2019. He received the Mitacs Gobalink Research Award (2021) for his research project “Fertility patterns among HIV-positive and negative adolescent women”. His current research focuses on the effect of climate change on population dynamics.
